Known as the “Gateway to Yosemite,” Merced is a beautiful and surprisingly affordable city, waiting for disciples to spread the gospel. It’s home to UC Merced, one of the fastest growing universities in the country, projected to grow to over 15,000 students by 2030.
The Pacific Southwest family of churches recently planted a church in Merced. Perhaps God is calling you to take on this challenge. We meet Sundays at the First Baptist Church 500 Buena Vista Dr. 11:00 Ad Building Conference Rm. 2. We will have our inaugural service on Oct. 1. See the flyer to the right for details.
We are looking for students who want to be part of this amazing opportunity to serve God in this way—both transfers to UC Merced and new students interested in Merced Community College.
This is also an appeal for mature married couples, empty nesters, or recent retirees.
We would also love to have singles who feel the call to the mission field to come to help plant a flag for Jesus in the beautiful city of Merced.
The team is being led by John and Jan Oakes, who have been leading the church in Bakersfield the past three years. They have many years of experience shepherding singles, in the teaching ministry, and leading smaller churches.
John is the author of 15 books on topics ranging from scientific questions raised by the bible to detailing church history. He is also the founder of “Evidence For Christianity.
